Duke Energy shifts to larger renewable ventures

The Austin, Texas, city utility already buys power from Duke Energy Renewables' Los Vientos II wind project.

Duke Energy Renewables is ramping up the size of its power projects, with construction expected to start soon on a pair of wind projects totaling 400 megawatts of capacity and plans moving forward on a joint solar venture slated for 399 megawatts.

Duke Renewable President Greg Wolf says customer needs dictate the size of all of Duke?s ventures. But he says there is a ?bias toward larger and larger projects? because of the economies of scale involved.
